Pepco Energy Services is to design and construct a $2.3m photovoltaic (PV) project in Maryland for the US Department of Energy.

The project will be implemented under a utility energy services contract that Pepco already holds with the US government.
Under the project contract, it is to construct a ground-mounted solar array, together with a carport array that will be built with an electric car charging station.
The project contract lasts until the second half of 2011, with both solar projects due to operate midway through the year.
The twin projects will use monocrystalline PV modules manufactured by the Federal Prison Industries, and are expected to reduce the government department’s energy demand, as well as feeding power to the grid, Pepco said.
