Japanese conglomerate Toshiba is to partner with the government of Japan to build a new large-scale solar plant in Bulgaria, according to the Japanese press.

The planned Japan-sponsored solar plant in the city of Yambol is reported to cost more than $1.22bn, with Toshiba and the government fronting around five-sixths of the project cost, and the rest of the project cost afforded by CEZ Group.
The plant is to be scaled up to quadruple its initial 50MW capacity in the next five years, reports said.
Japanese newspaper Nikkei also said this week that the electronics behemoth is to supply lithium ion batteries to Mitsubishi Motors, while the company announced a new hydroelectric equipment contact with a subsidiary of one of China’s largest power companies.
