Chinese solar manufacturer GCL-Poly Energy has ramped-up its silicon wafer production capacity to 3.5GW ahead of schedule, which it hopes will enhance its competitiveness in the global photovoltaic industry.

Reaching its expansion target is a milestone in the company’s silicon wafer production and construction history.
GCL-Poly executive director Shu Hua said, ‘To build a vertically-integrated photovoltaic supply chain and thereby to meet the strong demand from market development in the photovoltaic industry as well as to provide the market with high-quality silicon products and services, GCL-Poly has been quickly expanding its photovoltaic business from polysilicon production to ingot production and slicing of wafers since the second half of 2009.’
The first phase of the company’s 650MW silicon wafer slicing project in Xuzhou, China reached production capacity in late July, following which its silicon wafer projects in Changzhou, Suzhou and Konca were ramped up.
