Wind turbine gear manufacturer Moventas has opened a new remote centre for the condition management of wind turbines and industrial gears at its Rautpohja premises in Jyväskylä, Finland.

It said that the centre will enhance its condition management system (CMaS) condition management system and service for wind turbine gears by using the latest technology.
Instead of just monitoring the technology, the new condition management service provides expertise that foresees risks in advance and recommends required action.
The system, which contains sensors and a main unit which collects and processes data, recognises possible damages to gears and other mechanical components in advance before they interfere with turbine operation.
The CMaS condition management system aims to maximise production by preventing unexpected, expensive disturbances in wind energy generation and avoiding the need to take the gear out of service.
‘This system minimises this kind of damage as well as shutdown times,’ said Moventas product manager Antti Turunen.
Combined with Moventas remote services, the new condition management system complements the Moventas global service product portfolio.
The new centre, which is able to manage a host of different condition monitoring systems, uses the latest technology and also provides gear expertise on a tailored level as well as service on the entire wind turbine drive train.
‘Currently, we manage some 700 wind turbines around the globe, and we continually enter new agreements with both turbine manufacturers and end users,’ said Turunen.
The condition management concept is currently used in the hydropower process and mining industries.
A separate Moventas service centre network covers nine countries.
