Lark Energy, a division of a UK-based construction and development group, has submitted plans for a £35m solar project in Leicestershire.

According to a report in the BBC, Lark Energy has proposed to build a 150-acre site facility near Loughborough, which will generate enough energy to power 6,000 homes.

The site is a former airfield runway and, if approved, construction will begin later this year.

In addition, Lark Energy has also said the panels can be removed in 30 years-time when energy production ceases, to return the site to its former state.

In July, the developer connected the largest UK solar facility to the grid ahead of the drop in feed-in tariffs for 5MW installations. This facility was 4.9MW and is located near Nottingham.
