Independent power company Indian Energy has formed a framework agreement with Trishe Developers Private for the acquisition and construction of 1,000MW of wind farms in India.

Under terms of the agreement, Trishe will develop the facilities with Indian Energy purchasing the plants once certain milestones have been reached. The companies expect around 300MW of projects to become operational during 2013, a further 350MW by 2014 and the remaining 350MW in 2016.

Developments are set for a number of states including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Turbine suppliers will be chosen on a project-by-project basis.

Rupert Strachwitz, CEO of Indian Energy, said, 'This is an important milestone for Indian Energy; we have now created the visibility on the growth of the group to over 1GW of capacity, which we can achieve in a relatively short period of time. We are delighted to have partnered with Trishe, whose team has an exceptional track record in the development of wind farms in India.'

Narasimhan Ramkhumar, CEO of Trishe, added, 'We at Trishe are honoured to be given an opportunity to serve an important customer such as Indian Energy, and to deploy our development and construction capabilities. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Indian Energy.'
