Canadian cleantech company Finavera Wind Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding with tribal council the McLeod Lake Indian Band for the development of two wind farms in British Columbia.

The agreement is a mechanism through which the McLeod Lake Indian Band has provided permission for the construction of the 47MW Tumbler Ridge and 77MW Wildmare Wind Energy initiatives. It establishes a process for the sharing of benefits between the two organisations.

The McLeod Lake Indian Band will benefit from training, employment, business opportunities and financial participation. Finavera has committed to providing clean, renewable energy, bringing benefits to indigenous tribes and citizens of the province in a manner respecting Aboriginal and Treaty rights while minimising environmental impact.

Derek Orr, McLeod Lake Indian Band Chief, said, 'The McLeod Lake Indian Band is happy to support Finavera and the responsible energy they will be producing. We look forward to the success of this project and to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Finavera.

Jason Bak, CEO of Finavera, added, 'We are extremely proud to enter into this partnership with the McLeod Lake Indian Band on the development of our wind projects in British Columbia. Chief Derek Orr has a strong vision for his community and we are thankful for their support of Finavera and these projects.'
