UK-based cleantech specialist ENER-G has opened a new research and development centre in Salford, North-West England, to develop new energy efficiency hardware systems. Engineers at the facility will work in collaboration with the company's software design team in Sussex to design new building control technology.

The opening coincided with production of the company's first batch of its E-MAGINE energy management systems, which it said can cut consumption in buildings by up to 25 per cent.

The company is now actively selling its E-MAGINE technology, with a number of organisations already installing it. It is thought that it will initially target the UK and then go on to leverage its established global presence.

Tim Scott, group chairman of ENER-G, said, 'We are investing more than £1m per year in research and development to ensure that ENER-G continues to be a global leader in clean technology - producing innovative world class products that reduce cost and carbon.'

Earlier this month, ENER-G completed installation on a ground source heat pump for the Open University in Milton Keynes that it said will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 45 per cent.
