France's plan to open a €10bn offshore wind tender is being met by opposition by some members of the public.

According to the Financial Times, a strong opposition group is emerging to the government's plans to build large wind farms off the coast of Normandy in the form of war veterans.

A spokesperson from the France-based European Platform Against Windfarms told the paper that the veterans were 'upset' by the plans.

Opposition to offshore wind is not uncommon with the Cape Wind project developers in the US coming up against fierce objections from waterside landowners.

Much of Europe, however, is embracing the technology with developments taking place on a rapid scale in both the UK and Denmark.
