Renewable energy project developer juwi has entered the South Africa and Chile markets where it will look to develop wind resources.

The company has opened offices in both countries and will look to leverage on what it sees as being great potential in both regions.
Its activities in South Africa will be co-ordinated from an office in Stellenbosch, 50km from Cape Town.
Marie-Luise Pörtner, managing director of juwi Wind, said, ‘South Africa is at the beginning of a great development as the country offers great potential for renewable energies. We want to establish juwi as a project developer with comprehensive services, who supervises projects throughout the entire development process – from acquisition to planning, financing, construction, operation and management.’
It said in South Africa the initial focus would be to develop wind projects, with a total output of 200MW to 300MW within the next nine years.
Its wind resources, suitable land and guaranteed feed-in tariff offers excellent development potential for the region, it said. Chile, it said, was another promising market for the group.
Its subsidiary Energías Renovables de Chile has opened an office in the capital Santiago de Chile.
Alejandro Lobo-Guerrero Rodríguez, managing director of project development Latin America, said, ‘Chile offers excellent wind conditions. In addition, it has great potential for solar power.
‘Furthermore, Chile is a country with stable political conditions that is open to renewable energies.’
