US-based community wind power company Juhl Wind has secured a federal stimulus grant of more than $12.5m for its recently completed 20MW Grant County Wind project near Hoffman in the central western area of Minnesota.

The company used the proceeds of the grant towards partial payments for construction financing that it arranged for the community wind project.
It recently announced an additional two projects, the Adams and Danielson wind farms, with a combined cost of around $86m, all of which are owned through a joint venture of local farm owners and institutional partners.
Juhl Wind CEO Dan Juhl said that tax credits have enabled the company to secure finance for community wind projects despite the recession.
‘The US stimulus funds have helped to pull together the financing for several of our wind farms that we have built or have under construction this year and into 2011 by providing about 30 per cent of each project’s funding,’ he said.
‘We believe that the US stimulus grants make perfect sense for community owned wind farms.’
