France is set to launch a tender for offshore wind that will see the country increase its renewable energy footprint by 3GW.

France, which has dampened its support for a solar photovoltaic market, will launch the request imminently as it seeks to make ground in the wind sector, according to Reuters.
Junior ecology minister Chantal Jouanno has reportedly said the country is looking to install 3GW as it gains a hold in this still fledgling sector.
A further tender will be launched at a later date as France progresses with its aim of installing 6GW by 2020.
It has been estimated the investment for the initial 3W will total €3bn.
France has previously announced that ten locations have been identified as potential offshore wind sites, including site in the English Channel and Mediterranean Sea.
