General Electric (GE) will supply 55 of its 1.6MW wind turbines to Suncor Energy for one of the largest wind power projects in the province of Alberta in Canada.

It will deliver the turbines to the Wintering Hills project located near Drumheller, 78 miles northeast of Calgary, in the latter part of next year. The project is part-owned by Teck Resources alongside Suncor’s controlling interest.
GE said it is one of a number of wind farms it is developing in Canada due to its track record in handling robust wind locations.
‘Winning this deal with Suncor illustrates how our wind turbine power enhancement technologies are making a difference for our customers’ return on investment,’ said GE Power & Water vice president Victor Abate.
The company’s 1.6MW wind turbine includes long 82.5-metre blades to maximise power output.
GE Energy’s newly-appointed executive for Canada, Keith Triginer, said, ‘We are working hand-in-hand with Suncor and others to make wind and other alternative energy sources a larger, more integral part of the province’s overall energy supply.’
