The US-based Light Corporation has completed installation of an efficient lighting system at a General Motors' (GM) facility, expected to save the automotive giant more than $12m.

The fluorescent lighting and control systems were installed at GM's Spring Hill base in Tennessee.

This work is expected to save GM around $800,000 annually over a 15-year period, with the 4,500 new light fixtures reducing power consumption by 8.5 million kilowatt hours each year.

Ken Knight, manager of the GM Spring Hill manufacturing complex, said, 'Replacing older lighting technology is a cost-effective way for us to significantly conserve energy and save money as we transform our site into one of the world's most innovative and flexible manufacturing facilities.'
