Wind company Simple Power has signed a £50m agreement with French-based Vergnet to develop the single wind market in Northern Ireland.

Founded by CEO Marc Vergnet, the company manufactures wind turbines and will supply Simple Power with mid-range Vergnet GEV-MP R 250kW wind turbines across Northern Ireland.

Simple Power aims to develop around 200 single wind turbine installations in the region by 2016.

Simple Power CEO, Paul Carson, said, 'I am delighted to announce the signing of this exclusive distribution agreement with Vergnet in Northern Ireland at such a pivotal point in the development of wind energy here.

'The company is a global leader in the medium wind sector with expertise spanning 20 years. We look forward to leveraging our combined strengths to fuel the growth of the single wind turbine sector in the province.'

Marc Vergnet, CEO at Vergnet, added, 'With Simple Power, Vergnet has found an innovative and very professional partner in a rapidly growing renewable energy region.

'The calibre of the Simple Power team, which is clearly highly committed to developing the single wind energy market in Northern Ireland, was particularly important.  With over 150 wind turbine projects already under development, this agreement provides a strong framework for continued and accelerated growth.'
