German electronics giant Siemens has been contracted to supply wind turbines with a combined capacity of 100MW for two projects in North Africa being developed by Nareva Holding.

The company will provide 44 units for the Moroccan Haouma and Foum El Oued projects. The deal includes delivery, installation and commissioning of the turbines, as well as a five-year service contract for each facility.

Both plants are expected to commence commercial operation by the middle of 2013.

Felix Ferlemann, CEO of the Siemens Wind Power Division, said, 'These two orders mark Siemens Wind Power's entry on the African wind market and clearly show that our internationalisation strategy is successful.'

Earlier this year, Morocco's public utility ONE launched tenders for 850MW of wind energy projects, inviting bids from international companies.
