Italian renewable energy developer Enel Green Power has secured a concession to construct a 99MW wind farm in Chile.

The permission came through a tender launched by the Ministry of National Assets and the Ministry of Energy as part of a strategy to diversify the country's power assets.

The concession is located in the Taltal district in north Chile and Enel has approval to construct in a 2,600 hectare area. Provided feasibility studies turn out positively, the company will erect 33 turbines at the site.

Cristian Herrera, general manager of Enel Green Power in Chile, said, 'The Taltal wind concession comes to ratify the growth of the company in the country through a balanced mix of renewable energy technologies. It's a new step ahead to accomplish the growing consumption needs of the country through the contribution of our diversified portfolio which includes geothermal and solar initiatives.'
