Danish wind energy company Vestas has received an order in Sweden for turbines with a combined capacity of 96MW from Stena Renewable.

The 3MW units will be used on a project in the Vetlanda Municipality, south-east Sweden. Installation is set to commence next August with the site expected to be operational by April 2013.

The contract includes supply, construction and commissioning, as well as a 15-year service and maintenance agreement.

Klaus Steen Mortensen, president of Vestas Northern Europe, said, 'We are happy to announce another major onshore order in Sweden for Vestas' V112-3.0 MW turbine. Stena Renewable is a very important partner for us in the Scandinavian region and we are very pleased they have selected us as supplier for this project in Lemnhult. The order is a significant stepping stone in the continuing expansion of renewable energy in Sweden.'

Göran Danielsson, managing director of Stena Renewable, added, 'The Stena Lemnhult wind farm, located in the most southern of Sweden's new price areas, is our largest investment so far. With almost 270GWh of yearly production, corresponding to 70 per cent of total power demand in Vetlanda, the plant makes Vetlanda a leading renewable energy supplier among Sweden's municipalities. The project also manifests our continued strong partnership with Vestas.'

Earlier this month, Vestas was appointed as preferred supplier for two projects in South Africa with a 138MW combined capacity and won a 56 turbine order in Australia.
