Global cleantech project manager Mainstream Renewable Energy has purchased 23 wind turbines from Chinese manufacturer Goldwind for a 34.5MW development in Chile.

The facility is funded by what is expected to be the first non-recourse financing provided by the Chinese Development Bank to benefit a project fully-owned by a company outside China.

It is expected to create between 150 and 250 jobs in construction, transportation and manufacturing. Mainstream has established a local development facility in Santiago that will serve as a base of operations for projects in the country.

Eddie O'Connor, CEO of Mainstream, said, 'Our goal is to deliver low cost, high quality projects and by partnering with Goldwind and the China Development Bank we can achieve this. We're developing over 15,000MW of projects across four continents and working with Chinese partners is very much central to our strategy. Earlier this year we established our office in Beijing and we're fully committed to these relationships for the long-term.'

Tim Rosenzweig, CEO of Goldwind US, added, 'Just as all of us at Goldwind were pleased to establish the company as an early player in Ecuador, we are excited to bring our unique competitive advantages to gain an early foothold in Chile. South America is a key strategic market for Goldwind's international ambitions and we are eager to work with partners like Mainstream to continue our momentum.'
