The first roof-top solar plant in Geneva, Switzerland has been commissioned by an infrastructure fund.

The investment fund L14 FCP SIF - with a specific focus on wind and solar - financed the facility through a partnership with ModenaCars, the largest European Ferrari/Maserati showroom.

'We are very excited and pleased at the completion of this facility which is one of the largest of its kind in the canton of Geneva,' said L14 managing partner Nicolas Hontebeyrie. 'This power plant will save 63 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year compared to a fossil fuel power station.'

The solar panels were purchased from SunPower and were installed in less than two months.

L14 chief technology officer Stuart Kull said, 'It was important to get this done on time, under budget, with the best materials and contractors on the market. This installation gives the opportunity to Modena Cars to protect the environment, following the environmental line initiated by Ferrari, who equipped its Italian factory with photovoltaic panels in January 2009.'
