US photovoltaic (PV) company KDC Solar has completed the installation of a 3.25MW rooftop facility for the United Stationers Supply warehouse in New Jersey.

The array is expected to provide 100 per cent of the electricity required by the warehouse. SunDurance Energy carried out construction work for the project that consists of 21,000 panels supplied by Chinese manufacturer Trina Solar.

Bill Stark, vice president of engineering for United Stationers, said, 'United Stationers is excited to see this rooftop solar installation come on line. This provides us with a great opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint through the production of clean electricity, increasing our environmental stewardship in the local community and the State of New Jersey.'

Hal Kamine, CEO of KDC Solar, added, 'We are thrilled to complete the project for United Stationers and The Sudler Companies to provide clean, low cost, long-term solar energy that will satisfy 100 per cent of United Stationers' current needs. This solar facility represents our largest completed rooftop mounted project to date. We intend to replicate this successful model as we pursue our commitment to behind-the-meter solar electric systems for business/government and institutions in New Jersey, which in turn creates or preserves long-term jobs for New Jersey.'

Solar installations are becoming extremely commonplace in New Jersey and earlier this month Constellation Energy completed a 6.5MW project in the state. To capitalise on this growing market US PV specialist Antaris opened a new division in the region last month.
