Australian cleantech specialist Infigen Energy has received project approval for the proposed Capital 2 wind farm in New South Wales.

The project is set to consist of 41 turbines although the generational capacity has not yet been confirmed. At the end of last year Infigen received approval for the first stage of the Capital development which will have a capacity of 50MW.

The company said that construction on the Capital 2 project should improve economies of scale for the business and therefore reduce the per watt cost of building a wind farm. A final investment decision on the facility is yet to be considered by the company's board of directors.

In June, Infigen reached an agreement to sell its portfolio of German wind energy assets for €154.6m to an undisclosed European renewable energy fund and at the start of the year received approval for the construction of a 100MW solar project that it will develop with Suntech Australia.
