US wind farm repair and maintenance specialist the Wind Energy Services Company (WES) has partnered with three turbine component factories owned by Molded Fiber Glass Companies (MFG) to open service centres at the MFG facilities.

The new WES sites will be located at factories based in Texas, California and South Dakota and will be staffed with mobile service crews. All three bases are located in areas with high concentrations of wind farms. The centres will also offer repair services for blades and other components.

Tony Drake, general manager of MFG West, said, 'We have the ability to build a mold and composite parts quickly to match the original models, and are organised to accept jobs of all sizes at our Adelanto plant. We recently fulfilled an order for replacement nacelles, spinners and hatch covers for an older turbine that proved to be a tremendous value for the customer.'

Gary Kanaby, director of sales for MFG, added, '[MFG] is the largest North American manufacturer of composite wind components, and our ability to offer in-factory repairs will be boon for customers in these regions. Particularly in the winter months when weather conditions can make up-tower repairs impossible - we can now move damaged blades or other components into the factory, make the repair and have the equipment restored to productivity quite quickly.'
