German wind turbine manufacturer REpower Systems has been contracted by French energy company GDF Suez to supply of 23 turbines for two projects in the Burgundy region of France.

The combined capacity of the sites will be 47MW with 15 turbines going to the La Bretelle development and eight going a project called Echalot. Deliveries are expected to begin in the middle of next year with installation scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012.

Olivier Perot, managing director of REpower's French subsidiary, said, 'We are very pleased that REpower turbines are employed in two projects of La Compagnie du Vent. This highlights the strong partnership built with GDF Suez and its subsidiaries. With both wind farms the installed capacity in the region of Bourgogne will almost double from 70MW to 120MW in the future. '

Jean-Francois Innocenti, GDF's director for construction of La Compagnie du Vent, added, 'These two wind farms represent the most important project that our company has ever built in France. At the end of 2012 La Compagnie du Vent will almost operate 300MW of wind energy capacity, of which 80MW are realised with REpower turbines.'

REpower systems is now owned by Indian company Suzlon and earlier this month the companies' Australian subsidies officially commenced joint operations.
