US developer TradeWind Energy has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Alabama Power for electricity produced from the planned 202MW Chisholm View wind farm in Oklahoma.
The Alabama Public Service Commission approved the deal on 7 September and the facility is scheduled to become operational by December 2012, according to local news sources. The project is expected to create 150 construction jobs and 15 full time employees as well as generating $5m annually in local property taxes and rent payments to landowners.
The PPA contract is the fist agreement stemming from the Birmingham-based Alabama Power's 2009 request for proposals for renewable energy projects the company's director said in a written statement. It is the second wind farm in the state that TradeWind is developing.
