Spanish power company Isolux Corsan has completed the construction of three solar farms in the UK with a combined capacity of 15MW.

The three plants are located in Cornwall, South West England, and were completed in just ten weeks at a cost of €40m. Each site has a generational capacity of 5MW and in total the facilities consist of 22,000 crystalline panels. Investment into the project was organised by Santander and a local partner.

It is the first photovoltaic (PV) venture in the UK for Isolux and the connection with the Western Power Distribution grid was established before the start of August meaning electricity generated will still benefit from the old feed-in tariff for solar.

Earlier this month, Isolux won a contract in Brazil to construct 247km of transmission lines through a national auction and the Corsan subsidiary is considering listing in that country to help it fund its solar plans.
