Siemens has been contracted to construct and supply modules for 15 photovoltaic (PV) plants with a combined capacity of 25MW for Sun Development. Six of these developments with a capacity of 16.7MW will be in Italy and the remainder of the projects are in France, Martinique and Guadeloupe.

The plants are scheduled to be operational by the end of this year and Siemens will be the engineering, procurement and construction contractor along with supplying inverters, medium-voltage equipment as well as monitoring and control system technology.

Martin Schulz, vice president of PV in the Siemens renewable energy division, said, 'Siemens takes responsibility for customised planning, engineering, delivery and installation of all the necessary components. These new orders demonstrate that we are the right partner for complete project and are able to erect the PV plants within a short time.'

Siemens is based in Germany and recently announced that it would rearrange its renewable energy division as its solar, hydro and wind divisions were at different developmental stages.

This week the company completed the expansion of a US wind farm and announced a partnership arrangement with Volvo to research technology for the electric vehicle market
