EDF subsidy enXco has signed a 25-year purchase power agreement with US utility the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) for a 100MW wind facility to be built in Solano County, California.

The Shiloh IV project is a repowering scheme designed to upgrade the existing technology at the site. The original development was installed in 1989 and consists of 235 turbines with a combined capacity of 25MW. enXco will build and own the revamped facility and anticipates the new equipment to be operational by the end of 2012.

Mark Tholke, vice president for enXco's south-west region, said, 'Repowering older projects is increasingly an important part of our project development portfolio as legacy projects of California built in the 1980s reach the end of their efficient life. enXco Service Corp's wind technicians have done an outstanding job of keeping these machines operating in optimal condition. We are pleased to be able to implement today's state-of-the-art turbine technology to achieve more than four-times greater capacity and nearly ten-times more energy with minimal addition in land resources. It's an ideal situation for the landowner and the utility.'

Fong Wan, senior vice president for energy procurement for PG&E, added, 'Wind power is a key piece of our commitment to providing our customers with more clean, renewable electricity. Today's agreement is another step forward in reaching our long-term goals of developing, generating and purchasing more green energy to serve our customers.'

In June, enXco arranged a purchase power agreement with San Diego Gas & Electric for the sale of power from a 130MW photovoltaic facility in southern California. In May, it closed financing for a 205MW wind farm in Minnesota.
