US technology giant General Electric (GE) has been contracted by project manager the Wind Capital Group to supply 228 turbines with a combined generating capacity of 350MW for two US wind farms.
The Osage project in Oklahoma will use 94 1.6MW turbines and electricity from the facility will be sold to distributor, the Associated Electric CoOps. The other development in Kansas will be comprised of 134 1.5MW units and will supply power to Westar Energy. Delivery for both projects is scheduled in the first half of next year.
Ciaran O'Brien, CEO of Wind Capital Group, said, 'This purchase will help us to create American jobs, invest in rural economies, and bring clean, domestic energy to communities across the country. At a time when many energy projects around the country are on hold, Wind Capital Group is making substantial investments and expanding our operations. This turbine acquisition sends a clear signal that we have a pipeline of high-quality development projects that we are continuing to translate into strong commercial assets.'
