Renewable energy provider Tioga Energy is initiating work on a raft of 44 solar projects at municipal government facilities in the US state of New Jersey.
Tioga Energy and the Union County Improvement Authority implemented a financial structure for the projects that combines the benefits of low-interest municipal bonds with the sale of solar renewable energy certificates and federal tax incentives.
Tioga Energy’s business model is based on the ownership of renewable energy projects and the sale of power from them to government and commercial clients.
The finalisation of the Union County contracts enables the company to break ground on the 3.4MW of development, which it expects to complete by early 2012.
Tioga’s installation partner, a joint venture between Pro-Tech Energy Solutions and Huen Electric, is responsible for engineering and constructing the systems.
The power purchase agreements on the projects will see it sell electricity to the county while reducing electricity costs 50 per cent over 15 years, Tioga claims.
‘Working with Tioga Energy offers Union County tremendous value, allowing us to decrease our energy expenses and instead allocate those resources to better serve our community,’ said Union County Improvement Authority executive director Charlotte DeFilippo.
