A former employee of NextEra Energy Resources has laid claim to a break-in at a wind farm control centre in a revenge incident.

The hacker reportedly revealed details of his alleged break-in during an email interview with Computerworld.
He is thought to have accessed the control centre for the Fort Sumner wind farm in New Mexico, which consists of 136 wind turbines.
He said he was able to make his way into the wind farm’s control hub due to a weakness in the installed security software.
He allegedly hacked into the SCADA system that controls the wind turbines in order to show up the energy company.
A hacker meddling with the control system of the wind farm would potentially be able to programme the wind turbines for failure.
Although no problems have been reported at the wind farm so far, reports suggest that the suspect may be arrested.
