The wind subsidiary of global power company AES has closed £38.6m in financing for the planned Drone Hill wind farm in Scotland, which it said it plans to start constructing next month.

AES Wind Generation secured a £22.8m long-term loan from Barclays Corporates and £15.8m in project equity.
The company has entered into a 15 year long off-take contract for the 28.6MW wind farm with European Utility Statkraft4, a relatively new player in the UK power purchase market.
The deal represents the first financing of a project the portfolio AES gained through its acquisition of UK-based wind developer Your Energy last year.
AES project director David Wilson said the project furthers the company’s commitment to building and operating wind projects in the UK.
‘We anticipate two more financings will come from the Your Energy portfolio before the end of the year,’ he said.
Your Energy’s managing director Richard Mardon said, ‘The successful financing of this deal marks a new phase in the evolution of Your Energy and points to the true value of our portfolio since integration into AES.’
AES said site preparation for the wind farm will follow financing, with Raymond Brown Construction and Natural Power acting as contractors on the project.
Wind turbines for the project will be supplied by Nordex and are expected to be brought into full commercial operation in late 2012.
AES was granted planning permission to develop the wind farm on the allotted site in late 2008.
