Wind turbine manufacturer Vestas retained its lead in 2010, despite increased competition from Chinese competitors.
The Danish manufacturer ranked top of Make Consulting’s global rankings but China-based Sinovel and Goldwind both pushed into the top four.
Negatively impacting the market was a 44 per cent drop in new US capacity but General Electric (GE) managed to rebound the most and ended the year with a higher market share than in 2009.
GE went on to record the biggest year-on-year improvement of all the top ten businesses.
Siemens also recorded a strong year in North America, which helped to elevate it to the second position in the US and Canada.
European original equipment manufacturers accounted for 75 per cent of installations in the offshore sector during the year, led by Vestas and Siemens who both boosted their market positions.
