Solar photovoltaic (PV) technology developer Sanyo’s Hungary-based subsidiary has launched a €3m production facility in the country to increase its European production capacity.
The new production base was established with the help of a government grant as part of the Economic Development Operational Programme.
The new Hungary facility is the third production base Sanyo Hungary has established to produce a stable supply of its HIT solar modules in advance of introducing them to the European market.
It will have an annual module production capacity of 150MW, adding to 315MW of Sanyo Hungary’s capacity. The subsidiary’s capacity was recently doubled to 315MW from 165MW and its total worldwide annual capacity now stands at 680MW.
Sanyo said it aims to strengthen the production of its HIT solar modules for the European market, particularly its N series modules, which boast the world’s highest cell conversion efficiency of 21.6 per cent. The company said that Europe remains one of the most important markets for its solar business.
