Solar product manufacturer JA Solar and a Singapore-based affiliate of MEMC Electronic Materials have agreed to build and operate a new solar cell production facility in China.

The companies said they plan to build a solar photovoltaic cell production facility at JA Solar’s site in Yangzhou, with a name-plate capacity of 250MW.
While this facility is expected to begin operation later this year, the partners plan to expand its total production capacity to 1GW in later phases.
JA Solar CEO Dr Peng Fang said, ‘We expect that this alliance will further enhance the sustainability and profitability of our business over the long term.’
JA Solar announced its plans to boost its solar cell production capacity to more than 3GW late last month after it beat its shipment forecast in 2010.
The solar manufacturer saw its revenues grow 211 per cent year-on-year to $1.78bn in 2010, while its shipments inflated 187 per cent to 1.46GW, exceeding top-line predictions of 1.45GW.
