Nasdaq-listed power component supplier American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC) has secured an order for a series of wind turbine control systems from Dongfang Turbine that will be used in turbines it jointly developed with the Chinese wind manufacturer.

AMSC said it will ship the electrical control systems to Dongfang this year, which is the third largest wind turbine manufacturer in China, in preparation for volume shipments in 2012.
The control systems are to be used in a range of 2MW and 5MW full conversion wind turbines, which the two companies jointly designed and developed.
China is now the world’s largest wind power market both in terms of annual installations and total installations to date.
The country installed a record level of wind power in 2010, with 16.5GW of new added capacity bringing its total capacity up to more than 42GW.
‘A powerhouse in China’s growing wind power market, Dongfang Turbine has partnered with AMSC to introduce its next-generation wind turbines,’ said Greg Yurek, founder and CEO of AMSC.
