Japan’s Mitsubishi is to acquire a stake in a Spanish solar power company and as such has joined a 200MW generation project.

The company has acquired a 15 per cent stake in Acciona Termosolar, from its parent company Acciona Energia.
The move will see it become the first Japanese company to own a concentrated solar power plant under commercial operation.
Acciona operates four concentrating solar plants and this latest project’s total cost stands at €1bn.
The power, engineering and trading giant has in recent months bolstered its renewable energy and cleantech drive.
Its electric vehicle arm is now heavily marketing the i-Miev in Japan and the UK, and it has also made inroads into the European offshore wind sector.
