US-based solar equipment provider Spire is extending its reach to the Bangladesh solar market, securing an order from Bangladeshi company Rahimafrooz Renewable Energy for a solar module manufacturing line with an annual capacity of 20MW.

The Nasdaq-listed company said the system will enable the Bangladeshi renewable energy company to provide solar systems to generate electricity in rural areas in a country where the majority of the population is off grid.
‘Sixty-five per cent of Bangladesh is not connected to the national grid, making electricity scarce and expensive so the solar market is growing,’ said Spire CEO Roger Little.
‘Spire is providing Rahimafrooz with an advanced module manufacturing line capable of assembling 20MW per year of solar modules. Spire is also providing Rahimafrooz with PV system design and manufacturing technology which will give them the opportunity to provide modules and systems for rural electricity.’
Rahimafrooz Renewable Energy, a business unit of Rahimafrooz Group, has installed photovoltaic systems on more than 100,000 homes in Bangladesh and supported solar projects for a further 600,000 since 2003. It also provides solar-hybrid solutions for telecom operator towers and solar-powered irrigation systems.
