Germany-based wind farm developer PNE Wind has opened offices in Edinburgh city centre in preparation for what the company calls an ‘intensive’ investment drive in Scotland.
PNE has identified four sites in Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, Grampian and the Scottish Borders for wind farm potential, which it expects will generate 300MW of power.
‘The UK’s best wind resources are in Scotland, and along with the aggressive targets set by the Scottish government, it made sense to establish a base here,’ said Jan Koschinski, executive director of PNE Wind.
‘We like being close to our sites, and Edinburgh has a skilled workforce which we can call upon good communication links with our headquarters in northern Germany.’
PNE has built up a portfolio of onshore and offshore wind farms since 1995 in Germany, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, Canada, UK and the US.
The Scottish government has set a target of getting 80 per cent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020, and hopes eventually to export power to the rest of the UK, given its superior wind resources and the potential for wave or tidal power.
