Denmark-based wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has secured new orders from Germany and Italy, days after receiving a prior string of orders for wind farms in Poland, Norway, Germany and China.

Italy: Winbis
Following a 450MW run of global orders; the company has received an order from Italy-based EGL Group developer Winbis for 22 of its V90 wind turbines, with delivery earmarked for late 2011.
These 3MW turbines are canvassed for installation at the Bisaccia wind farm, which is based in the Campania region of southern Italy and has an estimated annual production capacity of 116,000 MWh.
Vestas already claims to be the leading renewable energy partner in Italy, with two production facilities in Taranto that produce blades and nacelles for the V90 model, together with the V52.
It has operated in the Italian market since 1998 through Vestas Italia, which is the sales unit of Vestas Mediterranean that handles all sales operations and maintenance activities in Italy.
Vestas said that this order came about through a temporary association between its Rome-headquartered unit Vestas Italia and General Construction.
Vestas Italia’s managing director Rainer Karan said, ‘As a first time buyer, the company has shown their confidence in the business case certainty that Vestas offers.’
Germany: Groß Eilstorf
Vestas has also secured an order due to be fulfilled this year: for 17 of its newest 3MW capacity wind turbines, the V112, from developer Windpark Groß Eilstorf for a 51MW wind farm in Lower Saxony, Germany.
This latest order follows previous acquisitions of the V112 for the Groß Eilstorf site; situated in an expanding wind energy region with a complex of 52 landowners.
Vestas Central Europe president Hans Jörn Rieks said, ‘Lower Saxony is a growing region for wind energy in Germany and we think the V112, 3MW is an ideal turbine to maximise wind energy production in the region.’
