Turbine manufacturer China Ming Yang Wind Power has signed an agreement to supply 200MW of wind turbines to an independent power producer (IPP) for an offshore wind project in tidal flat areas located in the Beibu Gulf region of south-west China.

If the agreement goes ahead, Ming Yang will provide 2.5MW and 3MW Super Compact Drive (SCD) offshore wind turbines to the project while the IPP will be responsible for wind farm development.
Pricing and other project development terms are expected to be based on the China 1GW Offshore Wind Farm Concession, which was announced in October 2010 and conducted under the direction of China’s National Energy Association.
Subject to the signing of a definitive agreement, construction is expected to begin next year.
‘This is a great opportunity for Ming Yang and a real endorsement of our SCD technology and the cost efficiencies it brings,’ said Chuanwei Zhang, chairman and CEO of Ming Yang.
Ming Yang, which collaborates and shares intellectual property rights with Germany-based turbine designer aerodyn Energiesysteme, counts the five largest state-owned power producers in China among its customers.
The company recently listed on the New York Stock Exchange in an offering that values it at over $1.3bn.
