Following its recent decision to slim down its European operations, wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has opened a new office in Germany’s capital of Berlin, to strengthen its service to eastern regions of the country.

The company said the new base will also enable it to better participate in national debates about wind energy policy in Europe.
Through opening the new office, Vestas hopes to capture a greater share of the wind energy market in eastern Germany, which is at a stage of growth where legislative decision-making is critical to the sector’s development.
‘This was an easy decision to make,’ said Vestas central Europe president, Hans Jörn Rieks. ‘We have more and more customers in Eastern Germany, who have ambitious development plans for wind energy.
‘We would like to become even more deeply involved in the debate about how the huge success of Germany’s wind industry can be continued. This is best done by establishing a presence in the political capital to ensure that wind energy has the strongest voice in Berlin.’
Despite the company deciding to axe staff and close bases in some European markets such as the Netherlands, Vestas said it has an increasing amount of wind energy customers in Eastern Germany with ambitious development plans.
‘These are interesting times for wind energy in Germany,’ Andreas Eichler, director of sales in Germany at Vestas.
‘The industry’s strong and well-structured growth has made Germany a global market leader in wind energy. The conversation about the future of wind energy is happening now – and it is happening in Berlin.’
