At both a country and European Union (EU) level the renewable energy industry is ‘stuck in a hole’ and desperately needs leadership, according to environmental activist network Greenpeace.

Doug Parr, policy director at Greenpeace UK, said, ‘Leadership is absolutely critical. The EU needs to agree, unequivocally, to implement a 30 per cent cut in emissions by 2020.’
Speaking at an energy conference in London this week, he added, ‘We need focused attention and direct stimulus fund.
‘At the EU and country level we need leadership, we are stuck in a hole.’
Parr also called for the end of high-carbon development and an EU-wide regulation targeting the coal sector.
‘We need to drive standards towards low emissions and we need a policy framework right at the top to make this all work.’
