The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC),the UN’s climate change panel, Thursday agreed to push ahead with reforms but chairman Rajendra Pachauri rejected suggestions he should step down.

After a meeting in Busan, South Korea, the IPCC said it would tighten checks for errors and set up a task force for wider reforms, such as an overhaul of the panel’s management, by mid-2011. Change and improvement are vital to the panel, Pachauri said.
The Busan meeting has recommended that top IPCC leaders should serve only a single term. Pachauri, elected in 2002 and now serving his second six-year term, said this would only apply to future leaders. He said he won’t step down before 2014, when his term ends.
