Spain-headquartered solar tracker manufacturer Mecasolar has opened a new manufacturing facility in the Canadian city of Wallaceburg in Ontario, adding to its existing factories in California, Greece and Spain.

The new centre is slated to reach a production capacity of 8,000 solar trackers on an annual basis.
The company said it will manufacture single and double axis solar trackers, all of which are compliant with the Canadian Electrical Code, and will be sourced from local steel and assembled locally.
From its new office, Mecasolar said it will supply Canada and the US, having already secured orders due for late 2011.
The company anticipates that solar installations will reach up to 400MW in 2011, of which it aims to hold ten per cent of the ground facilities.
Mecasolar claims that it will be the only global solar tracker company with a manufacturing facility in Ontario, and will collaborate with a team of local qualified installers through its installer network.
Mecasolar has already installed 282MW of solar trackers globally in 2010.
