Vestas will make the first European delivery of its latest and most technically advanced wind turbine to German wind energy project investor, planner and developer Prokon Group.

The order, which will be delivered during the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012, calls for the company to provide 17 of its V112 turbines, which each have a capacity of 3MW.
The news comes within weeks of when the blade on a Vestas V112 prototype based in Western Denmark broke, which the company said was to be expected during the test phase.
The turbines will be used on Prokon Group’s medium-scale Krackow project in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany.
The contract also includes the installation and supply of spare parts in addition to its VestasOnline Business Scada solution, which includes monitoring and control functions to optimise performance.
With 15 years of experience with wind projects, Prokon has a total installed wind energy capacity of 385.9MW.
‘Vestas is delighted that Prokon is demonstrating its trust in Vestas by ordering the V112, 3MW turbine,’ said Vestas Central Europe president Hans Jörn Rieks.
‘The V112, 3MW meets Prokon’s specific needs for this project, and will deliver a very high level of energy production with a low cost of energy. Our past collaboration has resulted in a strong relationship that has produced successful business results, and we look forward to supporting Prokon as it continues to grow in Germany and across Europe.’
Currently, 39 Vestas wind turbines are installed in 32 of Prokon’s wind parks out of a total fleet of 235.
Prokon managing partner Carsten Rodbertus said, ‘For the Krackow site, with its 7.1 miles per second wind speeds, the V112, 3MW is the right choice because it can optimise the wind conditions.’
By the end of June this year, Vestas had supplied 5,819 turbines to Germany, representing 7,284.13MW of generation capacity.
