RWE npower renewables has finalised the port arrangements for the €2bn Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm.

 

Together, these arrangements represent direct investments by RWE of over £55m into UK ports over the lifetime of the project, and the creation of well over 100 new, long term jobs.

The highest-value deal is with the Port of Mostyn, which will be the operations and maintenance base for Gwynt y Môr, in a deal worth over £50m over the lifetime of the project.

RWE proposes to construct a brand new operations and maintenance base from which it will manage Gwynt y Môr, as well as our two existing offshore wind farms; the 90MW Rhyl Flats and 60MW North Hoyle.

The other contract signed is a deal with Cammell Laird Shipyard that will last three-years and is worth over £5m, including an engineering services agreement.

RWE said the deal will enable significant investment in portside facilities, securing existing and generating new, skilled and long term local jobs.

At 576MW, Gwynt y Môr will be one of the largest offshore wind farms currently in construction in Europe, and once operational it will meet the power needs of 400,000 homes.
