The UK’s total electricity supply from renewable sources in the second quarter of 2010 fell by 12.1 per cent compared to the comparative quarter of 2009, according to figures published by the UK Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

Hydropower dropped the farthest, by 32.2 per cent year-on-year, while the resource accounted for just 0.10 per cent of feed-in tariff (FIT) installations during the second quarter.
Windpower supply declined 11.3 per cent compared to the previous year’s second quarterly figures and the number of wind installations accounted for a comparatively low 2.3 per cent of FIT installations. However, wind installations by capacity accounted for 34.7 per cent of the total capacity installed under the newly-introduced FIT scheme, compared to hydro, which made up 21.5 per cent of the total capacity installed under the scheme.
The number of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects accounted for a massive 97.6 per cent of FIT installations during the second quarter of 2010, representing a total capacity of 6.7MW. DECC said that a majority of these PV projects were small-scale retrofitted arrays.
