Energy management services firm World Energy Solutions has been selected by NSTAR, the largest Massachusetts-based, investor-owned electric and gas utility and a Northeast Utilities company, as an approved contractor within its municipal program. As an NSTAR Municipal contractor, World Energy is now approved by the utility to provide comprehensive energy conservation measures, including lighting, energy management systems, HVAC, retro-commissioning and installation of variable frequency drives, throughout the NSTAR service territory.
WES also announced that Mercy Hospital & Medical Center, a Chicago-based not-for-profit provider of care centers and safety-net hospitals, has successfully procured electricity, natural gas and green power for its facilities over the World Energy Exchange.
Energy efficiency and renewable energy company Ameresco has entered into partnerships with the University of Alaska Anchorage and University of Alaska Southeast to conduct campus-wide energy audits in an effort to reduce each institution's energy consumption and costs. Ameresco will conduct a campus-wide audit of UAA facilities and audit five campus buildings at UAS's Juneau facility.
DuPont Apollo, a wholly owned subsidiary of DuPont, has announced two new contracts to supply Thailand with a total of 22.75 MW of power generated by silicon-based thin film photovoltaic solar modules. The PV modules will be used for utility solar projects located in Chaiyaphum Province and Saraburi Province, and owned by Smart Green Energy and Infinite Green respectively.
Voters in San Francisco have rejected a proposal that would have opened up the city's refuse collection and recycling contract to competitive bidding. The proposal was rejected by a margin of of 76.6 percent to 23.4 percent, preserving the city's long-standing refuse service contract with Recology, reports Waste & Recycling news.
Waste Management has announced a program to provide stormwater management to US municipalities in the form of public-private partnerships. WM, in collaboration with environmental technologies and engineering firm AbTech Holdings, will partner with municipalities to design, build, operate and service stormwater infrastructure. The program has the potential to include finance alternatives for the municipal infrastructure as needed, WM says.
ABB, a power and automation technology group, has won an order from Rickmers Group in Germany to supply advisory systems for dynamic trim optimization and fleet management solutions for five multi-purpose vessels. Trim optimization means ballasting or loading the ship to achieve the floating position that consumes the least propulsion power. The operator of the vessels, Rickmers-Linie, a global specialist for the ocean transportation of break-bulk, heavy lift and project cargo ships, and deliveries for large-scale projects, is a member of the Hamburg-based Rickmers Group.
