RWE npower renewables has received approval from the Highland Council for a 27MW wind farm in Burn of Whilk in Scotland.

RWE npower renewables is the UK subsidiary of RWE Innogy. It is a renewable energy developer and operator, committed to developing and operating wind farms and hydro plants to produce sustainable electricity.
The project with be the ninth wind energy installation for the company. Previously this year, RWE was awarded approval for a 4.5MW hydropower project in Sutherland.
Burn of Whilk is located between East Clyth and the Loch of Warehouse, about 11km south of Wick in Caithness
The project is expected to enter the construction in the first half of 2013 and begin generating power in early 2014. When operating, the wind farm is predicted to supply the average domestic electricity needs of around 11,600 homes.
Project developer, Alastair Yule, said, ‘We are naturally very pleased with this outcome. Gaining consent has proved to be a long process as we initially submitted a planning application in 2006. Since then we have listened to and taken on board comments from the public and statutory consultees which has resulted in several amendments to the original plan, including reducing the number of turbines from 13 to nine.’
The supplementary details from the second proposal were submitted to the Highland Council in June 2010.
